“Statistics reveal that imports of food and agriculture products to the country have decreased in the timespan of March 20 to June 20 as compared with the same period last year,” said Kaveh Zargaran, Chairman of Agriculture, Water and Food Industries Commission in Tehran Chamber of Commerce.
The official added “in the same period, about 512 thousand tons of products worth more than 1.56 million dollars were exported from Iran indicating an 11% rise as weight regards as well as a 17% growth in value.”
Zargaran noted that 462 thousand tons of the country’s total exports over the three-month period belonged to agriculture products while food industries deployed more than 909 million dollars of goods to foreign markets.
The official underscored that “pistachio, dairy, sweets and chocolate, dates, tomato, apple and saffron accounted for more than 75 percent of the Iranian exports of food and agricultural products worth nearly 800 million dollars.”
He further enumerated several other products which enjoyed an escalated exports volume in the mentioned timespan asserting “Iranian food and agriculture products were shipped to 98 destinations while Iraq and Afghanistan receive 54 percent of the total share.”
Touching upon the decline in imports of agriculture and food in the three-month period, Zargaran said “the imports volume stood at nearly 4.26 million tons worth over $2.09 billion indicating a 7% decrease in terms of weight and a 6% fall in terms of value compared to the same period last year.”
Chairman of Agriculture, Water and Food Industries Commission in Tehran Chamber of Commerce emphasized that Iran’s agriculture imports mainly cover basic goods saying “approximately 67 percent of the imports value belong to cereals, oilseeds as well as edible oil which all fall into the category of basic goods.”
